3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-roading and provides an easy ride for babies. They are also easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy, particularly those with slings made of fabric or modular seat units, which are positioned tightly in the frame and deliver the best design and weight distribution.
Stability
A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is why it is a great choice for off road walking (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat unit). These buggys often have oversized front tires that can handle bumps, kerbs and rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheel in the front to give you additional stability while driving on uneven terrain.
It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies may have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels which means that they topple over more easily. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry and engineering to ensure they are stable in all weather conditions. three wheel pushchair should be able turn at a whim and be easy to steer with one hand. They also come with a 360o rotating front wheel, which is ideal to navigate difficult terrain.
For really tricky surfaces be sure to choose a model with air-filled tyres also known as pneumatic tyres, which are made to handle non-paved tracks and are able to deal with rocks, mud, etc. Many all-terrain buggies feature an adjustable front wheel that can be locked to increase stability when working on extremely rough terrain.
A 3-wheel stroller is a good option for runners or those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially if you're planning to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, with a world-facing seat that reclines flat and features a more comfortable 5-point harness and storage space for all your equipment (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight compact and safe for use starting at birth. It can be used with the car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging, however, it isn't designed for serious runners.
Weight
If you are looking for a buggy to tackle difficult terrain, then you should select one with big tires. These are designed to handle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks easily and still provide an enjoyable ride. They're also good for jogging as they have built in suspension and are easy to get up and down kerbs. However, the downside is that they can be quite heavy to push.

The most suitable 3 wheel buggy for rough terrain is the Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels and an swivel wheel lockable to the front, so it's very manoeuvrable. It comes with air tyres that require occasional pumping and it can be used to carry a child up to the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler liked the shape of the seat, and she found it easy to steer with her 3-year-old son on the seat.
The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another excellent option. It comes with an adjustable handlebar, a top-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection as well as an extremely high-quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs upwards and downwards, and can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram that comes with an infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.
Fabric sling seats sit snugly inside the frame of the buggie instead of over it like modular seats. This model has a lower centre-of-gravity at the perfect height. It is easier to push, and lighter to kerb-pop (you don't know how many times you'll need to do that as a new parent!).
Seating
There are many alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. The carrycot that comes with it is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will appreciate the spacious and padded seat with adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats don't recline fully however, they can be lowered to the lowest setting which will give your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.
A fabric sling seat is also available, which offers the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame instead of on top like a modular seat and this gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier and lighter to push especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this kind of seat handled these challenges.
This kind of buggy comes with an enormous basket, along with other useful features such as an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights that can be positioned in front of the occupants to increase safety on rough terrain.
If you're searching for a single baby buggy that can grow with your family There's the new sport(tm) that's the first of its kind to take one baby from the moment of birth and adjust to take 2 or even three once your little ones have developed, all within the footprint of a single buggy.
Storage
The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and stable to push with one hand and is also ideal for handling rough terrain. However, it also means that the shopping basket can't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.
A high-quality ATP will have a top suspension, pneumatic tyres as well as padding for the handle to ensure your convenience. It will be able to accommodate a carrycot or a car seat, meaning you can use it from the time of birth.
MFM's reviewers have discovered that the 3-wheeler frame can't pass through all doors of their homes or small car boot - be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded before buying in case you're concerned about space.
Choose a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the most suitable option for your child's future and will help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most popular. It can be used from day dot as a single buggie and later transformed into twin buggies when your baby begins walking.
Tyres
These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more comfortable. These are used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easier to handle kerbs and cobbles.
These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and require air pressure topped up regularly. They are also more vulnerable to punctures than foam tyres, so it is essential that you have a repair kit with spare tubes and a pump handy when traveling with your buggy.
PU tyres are found on a lot more pushchairs than air-filled tyres but they are still just as robust. 3 wheeled pushchair can recognise PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft texture. They also slide over flat and tidied surfaces.
If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it's a rubber or PU. You can also check whether your buggy comes with PU tyres sliding them on a flat, clean surface. They should roll smoothly and fit snugly into wheel hubs.
Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This could make your buggy less stable as the foam loses its springy feel. The tyres can also be noisy because they generate a lot noise when you turn or drive around town.
